Configure workforce settings
Before employees Check in or Apply for leave, Admins configure Workforce in Settings. Misconfigured shifts or missing leave types block daily use and generate support tickets. This guide maps Settings routes to HR policy decisions—shifts define when check-in is valid, leave types define PTO buckets, and holidays suppress attendance expectations. Complete setup in order: general settings, shifts, leave types, holidays, then communicate go-live to the team with Workforce overview.

Who can do this
Workforce Admin, Owner, or delegated HR Admin role.
Before you begin
- HR policy documents: working hours, leave accrual, holiday calendar, geo rules
- List of leave types and approval chain
- Optional: geo-zones for location-based check-in
What you'll accomplish

- Test employee can Check in and Apply for leave end-to-end
Step-by-step procedure
Open Workforce settings
- Settings → Workforce (
/settings/workforce). - Use tabs to navigate sections—URLs often include tab and section query params.

- Test Check in inside and outside window with a pilot user.
Leave types
- Add each leave type with clear name matching employee handbook.
- Set approval requirements and balance rules if module supports accrual.
- Verify types appear on employee Apply for leave form.
Holidays
- Import or enter holiday dates for the current year.
- Confirm holidays show on Leave Calendar and suppress false absence flags.
Advanced areas (when enabled)
Some workspaces expose additional admin routes under /workforce/* and Settings:
- Policies, geo-zones, corrections, anomalies, audit logs Enable only what your compliance scope requires—each adds admin overhead.
Go-live checklist
- Pilot user: Check in, Check out, Apply for leave.
- Manager: Approve test leave, then Reject a second test to verify notifications.
- Announce Workforce paths and approval SLA to all staff.
Verify your work
- Shift times match policy document
- All handbook leave types exist in Settings
- Holiday list covers full fiscal year
- Pilot Check in succeeds during assigned shift
- Manager Approvals queue receives test leave request
Tips
Configure holidays before rolling out attendance—otherwise holiday Check in gaps flag as anomalies. Document shift names employees should expect in HR onboarding email.
Troubleshooting
| Employees cannot check in | Shift not assigned or wrong timezone in Organization profile | | Leave type missing on form | Save leave type; verify employee eligibility rules | | Geo check-in fails | Geo-zone coordinates or radius misconfigured | | Anomaly spikes | Review shift overlap and holiday calendar first |
