Boards hub and board types
The Boards hub is the entry point when your workspace runs multiple Smart Boards—each board is a container for tasks with its own columns, owners, and optional templates. Before adding work, pick the correct board type so tasks land where the responsible team expects them. Sales follow-ups belong on sales boards; implementation checklists on delivery boards. From the hub you open an existing board or create a new one, then choose Table, Kanban, or Calendar view for day-to-day execution covered in Tasks overview.

Who can do this
Users with Tasks permission. Creating new boards typically requires Manager or Admin role.
Before you begin
- Tasks overview read—understand New task and modal fields
- Team naming convention for boards agreed
- Optional: CSV import plan via
/tasks/importif migrating from another tool
What you'll accomplish
- You can navigate the Boards hub and identify board purpose from name/icon
- You can open a board in your preferred view (Table, Kanban, Calendar)
- You can create a board when permitted and invite collaborators
- Imported tasks (if used) appear on the target board
Step-by-step procedure
Open the Boards hub
- Sidebar → Boards → land on the hub (
/tasks/smart-tasksor equivalent). - Browse board tiles or list—each represents a separate task namespace.
- Read board description/subtitle if shown—confirms audience (Sales, Support, HR).
Select or create a board
- Click a board tile to open it.
- If no suitable board exists and you have permission, click Create board (or New board).
- Name the board clearly—include team and purpose ("CS — Ticket Follow-ups").
- Configure default Status columns if prompted (To Do, In Progress, Done).
- Invite teammates who need assign access.
Choose your working view
After opening a board, set the view for your session:
| View | Open when |
|---|---|
| Table | Editing many tasks, exporting, sorting by Priority or Due Date |
| Kanban | Standups and status-driven flow |
| Calendar | Scheduling work around deadlines and leave |
- Switch views freely—the hub remembers your last board; views are per-session preferences on the board page.
Board types and icons
Some workspaces show icons or categories on hub tiles indicating template origin (project board, support queue, personal board). Use the icon as a hint, not a permission boundary—your role still controls edit access.
Import and templates
- Templates: repeatable board structures—duplicate before each client kickoff.
- Import (
/tasks/import): bulk-create tasks from CSV; map columns to Task Title, Status, Due Date.
Hub vs. single-board workspaces
Small teams may have one default board—the hub still appears but opens quickly. Large teams maintain dozens; use consistent prefixes so search finds the right board from the hub search box if available.
Verify your work
- Hub lists all boards your role can access
- New board appears on hub after creation
- Opening board loads default or last-used view without error
- New task on opened board targets that board in the modal Board field
Tips
Archive or rename stale hub tiles quarterly—reps stop opening deprecated boards when the hub stays tidy. Document board choice in onboarding so new hires do not create duplicate queues.
Troubleshooting
| Board missing from hub | Permission scope or board archived | | Cannot create board | Manager/Admin role required | | Import fails | CSV headers mismatch—align with Create New Task field names | | View switcher missing | Narrow browser width—expand window or use overflow menu |
